It’s a new year with a lot of new opportunities, both for me as a teacher, and you as potential students! One of those I am quite excited about is the Needle Arts Seminar. Hosted at the beautiful Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, this five-day event is filled with stitching, design, and creativity.
I will be teaching three classes over the course of the seminar: a sewing book, a table rug, and a basket wooly. If you want to know what these classes will entail, read on!
The Sewing Book
The sewing book is an old favorite that will be retired after this event. It holds your notions and threads so you can keep your stitching organized. And who says that being organized can’t be stylish, too? Students will stitch as well as work on construction of the book. You should leave with a completed project!
Mackinac Medallion
The table rug, Mackinac Medallion, I created to imitate the amazing Victorian architecture that you will see on the island. The houses boast intricate fretwork and railings against siding painted in beautiful colors of that era. Students will learn the technique of reverse applique over the course of two days, along with how to line up geometric motifs and stitch them straight. I am even offering multiple color choices for the background wool colors.
Basket of Beauties
Basket of Beauties, while a great beginner project, is an excellent addition to any stitcher’s home. The lovely willow basket is adorned with a charming wooly. Dressed in the famous geraniums that hang along the Grand Hotel’s sprawling verandas in the warmer months, this piece will be a fun one to work on. I will spend a day and a half with students for this project, which means you will get a lot of stitching accomplished!
Registration is open with a limited number of spaces still available. Go to https://www.grandhotel.com/packages/spring-needlework/ for information about how to attend this amazing event. Hope to see you there!
