From the Bookshelf: Stitches from the Garden by Kathy Schmitz Giveaway

During these cold winter months, I begin to dream about the smell of spring earth, blooms poking through the ground, and leaves making their first appearances on the branches. Recently I discovered an artist who captures these images in her work. Kathy Schmitz’s book “Stitches from the Garden” published by Martingale is full of delightful projects inspired by what she finds in her garden. The arctic blast has hit us here in the Midwest, and this book came just in time to lighten my spirits and dream of spring and summer.

Kathy's embroidery is beautiful and her color selections creates wonderful pieces for the home and the sewing room. Her book has excellent instructions which are well-illustrated, and guides for the stitches. The patterns are clear and colorful. One of my favorite parts of the book are the author’s watercolor paintings which are scattered throughout, and her drawings which are incorporated into the overall design.

Even if you don’t embroider this book is still a great addition to your stitcher’s library as inspiration. Kathy includes designs inspired by each season, and anyone who loves gardening will especially enjoy paging through this book at any time of year.

Comment below with what kinds of things you like to grow in your garden! You'll have a chance to win this book and a few skeins of Gentle Arts embroidery thread to get your first project started. We'll announce the winner Monday February 4, 2019.
